...Change is the 1st studio album by Joshua Smith, recorded from February- October 2018 at the Music Room in Rhinebeck, NY.
The songwriting for this album was a difficult obstacle to overcome. I had never written about anything except longing for love and experiencing heartbreak. After a few months, I began writing a few love songs about my then-girlfriend, Jamie, along with a song co-written with her, a gun control-inspired piece, an anti-war song, and others. The overarching theme of the album is as the title implies, change. A change I hope to see in society, in our country, as well as change in my life like graduating high school and growing up. The overall songwriting and musical aspect of the album was inspired heavily by John Lennon.
The album's cover was taken on January 15th, 2018 by Jamie Rifenburgh at the Olana State Historic Site in Hudson, NY in Jesús Rafael Soto's “Penetrable”.
