Half Past and Double Twelve is the 4th studio album by Joshua Smith, recorded from July 2020- December 2024 at the Music Room in Rhinebeck, NY.Â
Recording for this album started in small pieces beginning in July 2020 after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. At it's earliest stages, most of the material produced were bits and pieces of songs and ideas. The original concept was a large-scale, 20 track album with all sorts of genres and styles of music. However, between finishing the North Clover Street album as well as starting the Life Sounds project, the concept was scrapped and the track listing was shortened. It's anticipated release date was for sometime in 2023, but this was delayed due to a busy school and work schedule as many of the songs were being worked on in small pieces at a time. In September of 2024, it was decided that this album would become my senior project for my music degree at SUNY New Paltz. The previously recorded songs were touched up and several new songs were recorded in the span of just a few months.
This album is dedicated to my fellow music students and music department faculty at SUNY New Paltz. The cover was taken on December 3rd, 2024 by Joshua Smith in Old Main at SUNY New Paltz.
